hero image spiritual connection

One of the most profound ways to channel spiritual guidance is through conversation. I often find that I spontaneously channel insights when recording my podcast, Dear Gabby, with my producer, Josh. His relaxed vibe allows me to flow freely, and it’s in these moments that cool messages come through.

If you’re looking to channel spirit during your conversations, here’s how to create a space for connecting with higher wisdom and guidance:

  1. Set Intentions: Begin by clearly stating your intention to open yourself to spiritual guidance during the conversation. Try this prayer: “I welcome the energy of the highest truth and compassion to enter into this conversation now.”
  2. Create a Sacred Space: Choose a quiet, comfortable environment for your dialogue.
  3. Center Yourself: Take a few moments to center yourself through deep breathing, meditation, or grounding exercises.
  4. Listen Intently: Practice active listening. Be fully present and attentive to the words, energy, and emotions of the other person.
  5. Trust Your Intuition: Pay attention to your inner guidance. Trust the subtle messages and feelings that arise during the conversation.
  6. Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage meaningful dialogue by asking open-ended questions that invite deeper exploration and reflection.
  7. Reflect and Contemplate: After the conversation, take time to reflect on the exchange. Consider any spiritual messages or insights that emerged and how they resonate with you.

By approaching conversations with mindfulness, openness, and a willingness to receive spiritual guidance, you can harness dialogue as a powerful tool for channeling spirit and connecting with higher realms of wisdom.

i’m channeling spirit in this conversation

[00:00:00] The following podcast is a dear media production.

Hey there. Welcome to dear Gabby. I'm your host, Gabby Bernstein. And if you landed here, it is absolutely no accident. It means that you're ready to feel good and manifest a life beyond your wildest dreams. Let's get started.

Welcome back to dear Gabby, my friends. I'm so happy you are back today. We go old school style, dear Gabby Q and a, but The cues are coming from Josh. You're gonna just get so into Josh's voice. 'cause he's kind of like my Robin. Wait, Josh, who's Robin on the, on uh, what's her last name again? Quivers. Rob Robin Quivers.

So you're like officially the Robin Quivers. You're even in the intro now. Welcome to the intro. Wow. Josh is in the intro. He gets scared when I sort of throw him on the spot. So Josh and I are now gonna be hitting the studio together a [00:01:00] lot. You're my Robin Quivers. And we're in a riff. We've got some really, really, really good questions that Josh is asking me.

And I can also hardly contain myself right now because, dun dun dun dun, because, because we are so close to the launch of of my 10th book, Self Help. And this book is landing on December 31st, New Year's Eve. How fab is that? And what I'm doing to prepare for this launch of the book is, every time I launch a book, I do this cool thing.

I host a live virtual masterclass and it's totally free when anyone pre orders the book. And Josh and I are going to get on a plane, you, me, Ria, Jessica, we're going to go out to South Carolina. Are you excited about that? I am. I am really excited about it. And we're going to go into a studio and we're going to do this huge thousands and thousands of people joining us from all over the world to hear me teach the methods from the book.

We're working on the outline today, which is epic. [00:02:00] taking people through these steps of this book and helping you master the method. It's a four step method inside self help, but I'm going to teach you how to master the method before the book is even out. And so you can just pre order the book at DearGabby.com/selfhelp, and then you get a full, day masterclass with me.

You can come in for five minutes of it, the whole thing, whatever you want. It's free when you pre order the book. If you think you're going to get the book anyway, cause you're like, yeah, I want to read a book called self help.

This is your chance to change your life. That's the subtitle. And I mean it then pre order dearGabby.com/selfhelp and join me for the full day masterclass. It's on November 16th. The day is going to be really beautiful. Now, my friends, let's head into this show. We've got a beautiful Q& A ahead of us, and it's a soulful conversation.

It's a soulful conversation. So we bring in some questions from DMs, and Josh is the, is the Robin asking the questions. And we talk about the clear [00:03:00] steps to help you reconnect with faith. What else do we talk about? We have some really good questions that came in, Josh. Yeah, I mean, we get to practice the check in method and, um, That's the four step check in from the book, Self Help.

Yep. And we also learn tips for being really authentic on social media by checking why we're doing it, our intention behind it, which I think is really important. Oh, right. For those people who might be a little thirsty out there, we kind of check in about that. And then we talk about You're directing your energy to focus on what it is that you want to attract into your life and how to accept a partner who isn't on the same spiritual path as you.

You know that's a big one. A big one. And these questions are really, really important. They cover so many different areas and I really, I love them. I'm so thrilled that we're doing this. It's one of those things like when a grab bag just turns out to be the most awesome. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. All right. Listen in.

So good. Lots of Gabby wisdom coming through. Thank you. So we're back. Welcome back to Dear Gabby. And on the episode today, we are talking to our actual listeners. [00:04:00] We actually went out to the Instagram and asked for some Q and A. So this is old school Dear Gabby Q and A. I'm not bringing you guys on at the moment, but I'm going to riff on your questions.

And if you have more questions, you can always leave a review on the show and leave a question there because we will dig through those questions and find them from you. And I want to reiterate that because I'm the one who's digging through the reviews. I will absolutely pull them. Yeah. Go leave us a review and give us a question.

We will answer it. That's, we'll answer it. People are going to be so excited, they've been dying to ask you a question, so let's just dive right in. So someone asked, what do you do when you're on a spiritual journey but your partner is not?

You leave them alone. I mean, listen, you can share your experience. You can talk about what's inspiring and exciting to you. You can introduce them to the books if they're interested, but if they're not, it's just going to disappoint you. [00:05:00] So, I really mean that. Leave them alone. And, if it is a non negotiable for you, for some people, being in a relationship with somebody who's on a spiritual path is non negotiable, and so you have to face that, and you have to accept that, and maybe you have to do something about that.

The other thing is, is that while somebody might not be on a spiritual path that looks like yours, they're on a path. We're all spirits having a human experience. So they are indeed on a path. And so the question is less about are they on a spiritual path or are they on my spiritual path, right? So I think that just being less judgmental and more accepting and if having somebody be on the exact same spiritual path as you is a non negotiable for you, then that's something you can consider.

Consider what you want to do with that. I also think, I know for me because sometimes I feel that way, like, hey, I want, you know, to share all of it and, you know, do the meditations together. I was like, no, thank you. Well, he's like you said, he's got his own journey. He's got his [00:06:00] own journey and he does his own thing.

I also noticed the more I push, The further away he's in, you know, like his interest even gets further. So now is pushing a sexy energy, Oh, is pushing a attractive energy. No, no, no. Pushing is whenever you're pushing and I'm a real pusher at times, I gotta be very conscious. You've probably heard me do this or I'm like, you should do this.

And I said, Oh no, no, no, sorry. I suggest that you do this or I suggest this, right? My experience, this has been really cool. Using more suggestive language is really acceptable, or not acceptable, using more suggestive language is really helpful because when you're pushing, God, it's not, not going to work.

Not going to work. It's funny. One of my best friends, his name is Tate, and he's a pusher, man. Oh my God. Everything. And we joke because it's like, Oh, here comes the Donovan push. And it's like, you know, it's like it could be the Olympics. It could be the movie, you know, it's like, but he's passionate. He's very passionate.

Yes. Yeah. Pushers tend to be passionate people. Pushers [00:07:00] So, yeah, I mean, I think that's, that's helpful because like I said, the more I push the further away it goes. Do you have a favorite affirmation? I think as of today I do. This is my latest and it's a prayer. This is new for me. It's the serenity prayer.

I mean, it's not an affirmation, but it's something I can repeat, so it's sort of like an affirmation. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. And if you know me as well as you do, Josh, that's a good one for me right now, because, you know, It's probably been the most important prayer for me in my life, but I think that in this moment in time where I'm trying to embrace a new way of being and be more accepting of the things I cannot change and having more courage to just change the things I can and not be pissed off about that.

That's a big, it's a big prayer for me. It's a big [00:08:00] prayer for me right now. And how do you sort of absorb that? How do you like, cause it's, you know, like, okay, I don't have the ability to change that. I can't. So what, what do you see? You pray? That's, that's where the prayer comes in because you're not, a prayer is a conduit for new ideas.

So when we're stuck in a belief that we know is not working for us, that's when a prayer becomes a miracle because it opens up our conscious awareness to see things through a different lens. It temporarily suspends our disbelief. It takes the fear, the control, and it puts it on the shelf and says, universe, take this from me.

And in that more receptive state, new ideas can come forward, different patterns or behaviors. Sometimes you have to pray all day just to stay straight. Well, I love that prayer is a conduit to new ideas. That's genius. Write that one down. [00:09:00] When things are not going the way that you planned, that's because there is a better plan.

It's when we accept that. It's when we embrace that completely that another plan can set in. Because when we're trying to control something or we're trying to make it the way that we want it, then we stay in this resistant energy. And in that resistance, we block the miracle. We block the universal energy and the flow and the order and the creativity and the co creation.

So, The first thing to recognize is that if it ain't working, stop trying to fix it. Okay. Stop trying to fix it because it's in all the fixing and doing that we actually are creating more resistance and more tension. So take your hands off the wheel. If it's not working, it's gotta be something better.

Universe revealed to me what is of the highest good for all show me where to go, what to do, and what to say. And in that more relaxed [00:10:00] state, whatever is meant to happen is revealed. And it can be frustrating, right? Because we want to, we want things to be a certain way or we want, and so when we find ourselves frustrated because things aren't working out the way they, we want them to, the other thing we need to do is stop focusing on what the world is doing and start looking inward and say, what is it within me that needs some attention and some compassion or some healing?

Because the world that I see is a reflection of my internal movie screen that I have laid out. We are the directors of our life. We play the movie. We go into that back of that movie theater. We put on the movie and we press play. We put on, we set it all up and we press play. And so, do we need to go back into the screening room and change the reel?

And often times that's the answer too. It's that things aren't working out the way that you want, because you're playing the wrong movie. You need to check in and see, is it time to change the reel? [00:11:00] I know for me, like I can go down the line and off like 10 things where I was holding on too tight. And the minute I let go, including meeting you, that's what happened.

I just, I let go and I, you, we just bumped into like our, the universe went. It's exactly the story. That's exactly our story. It's when you let go, you allow. Cool. And if you hadn't let go, you might have sent your resume to AJ at the time, who was doing our HR, and he might have felt some weird energy behind it, and he wouldn't have looked at it.

But it was AJ that found you through the file of job descriptions and people's resumes, and there was an energy. He said, I don't know why, but I really like this guy. You know, there's, of course, parts of your resume that were very professional and really exciting to us, but it was something about you that was coming through in that resume.

And that's the thing. We forget the currency. The energy is the currency. Yeah. I mean, that was a real life lesson for me because I went about it completely different than I'd ever done anything like that before. So cool. [00:12:00] Yeah. Beautiful, Josh.

I'm super conscious about what I'm putting into my body. And that goes for food I eat and most certainly the supplements that I take. And that's why I love Novo's Core. Novo's Core is an amazing drink with a blend of 12 ingredients. And these ingredients are targeting the root causes of aging and supporting your long term health and vitality.

How do you surrender to the universe when you're dating? I mean, it's the same thing I just said, right? It's like, when you think you surrendered, surrender more. Stop trying to make it what you think it should be, or forcing somebody to be who you want them to be, and surrender. Surrender by, by offering the prayer daily.

Thank you, universe, [00:17:00] for guiding me to the partner that is of the highest good. Thank you for revealing to me. The relationship that's going to teach me and heal me because sometimes in relationships we don't always get what we want but we get what we need and so you may be dating and you find somebody that you're now going to get committed to and it doesn't work out.

Okay, well what did you learn from that? Are you dating somebody and it's, you learn a lesson from it because it was heartbreaking or it was frustrating or you wish you could have showed up differently. Instead of seeing these dates as failures or these relationships that end as not good, say, thank you.

Thank you for teaching me. You are my greatest teacher. Our relationships, even a five minute date or even an encounter on an app is a teaching device. So just stay in that seat of the student and just let these moments teach you and guide you and have fun. Just be cool. Have fun. That's the secret to attracting really great, [00:18:00] great partners or anything that you want in your life is to have more fun.

The fun person in the room is the sexiest person in the room. Yeah. I always think about when you say like, when we're particularly in relationships and beginning relationships and dating, like that pushing energy, you're always like, is that sexy? There's nothing sexy about it. There's nothing sexy about it.

No, no. Chill the out. And it's palpable, right? Like, you know, when that's coming your way and yeah, it's a turnoff. It's a turnoff. How do you show up authentically? This is interesting. How do you show up authentically on social media? I think that The answer is kind of simple. Like, do you believe what you're saying when you're posting?

Are you? Trying to be seen a certain way and look for some people, they use social media for their work or they use social media to build a brand about themselves and all this stuff that's happening. And so there may be certain tactics or things that you use, but for the most part, if you're using social media to [00:19:00] be seen and to feel seen, it's not going to work because ultimately people can feel that thirsty energy even through the screen.

Right. So the more vulnerable, the more authentic, it's not about vulnerability necessarily, because sometimes social media isn't a safe place to be vulnerable, but the more genuine you are, the more you you are, the more fun you have, it's just another way of communicating to people, the more resonant you will be.

And also asking yourself, like, what's my goal here? Am I trying to be seen? Am I trying to feel good enough? Am I trying to get something or am I having fun? And look, you can be, like I said, using social media for your business and you want to get people to take an action or whatever it is. But the more fun you're having and the more genuine you are, the more likely they are to want to get involved and listen more.

Yeah, but I think especially now as things, AI is being part of the equation. What's real. What's not real. So the importance of what you're saying is really profound in the sense of like you need to be you. That's right. The only thing we're going to have left is our energetic currency [00:20:00] because, because that's the thing that a robot can't embody is the energy.

Yep. How do you stay faithful and connected? in a time of major life transition. How do you stay in faith and connected in a time of major life transition? I think oftentimes in life transition are the times when people have the most access to faith because they hit their needs, right? There's like, Oh, this is a turning point in my life.

I got to get back into my practice. I would recommend somebody pick up my book. The universe has your back. It's transformed fear to faith. It's a subtitle and just dive into it and follow the practices of just prayer and meditation and surrendering to the universe and giving over what you think you need and trusting that the universe has your back.

It's a full blown guidebook to God. And I could sit here and give a lot of examples, but it is meditation. It is prayer. It is the devotional practice of reading a book like that, that just catapults you back into the seat of your faith. Now, this is such a beautiful story. [00:21:00] A very dear friend of mine is going through chemotherapy treatment, young woman.

And she texted me yesterday and she said, I'm sitting in chemo and the woman across from me who's getting her chemotherapy is reading The Universe Has Your Back. Yeah. And I said, I didn't catch her in time. I was like, give her the app! Give her the app because she's membership! And I was like, I was like, tell her I love her!

And I think, play this for her! They, they, I hope that she got to see her again to tell her that. But, and there's no better book to be reading in that moment because It is the book that brings you back to your faith. So definitely go read that book. That's my answer. And this sort of plays into the same thing.

Like, do you have any tips on how to get out of a negative mindset when you're so stuck in it? Yeah, I think that the check in method that's inside this book in self help, this is a great place to land this conversation because when we're stuck in a belief system or a repetitive loop of negativity or fear, [00:22:00] it's because a part of us is afraid.

It's because a part of us feels That we have to be in that way to protect ourselves from a feeling we don't want to feel. And so, it's a, it's a loop, it's a fear loop, and it's a judgment loop, and it's a cycle. And the only way to interrupt that cycle is to first and foremost witness it. And this entire book, Self Help, my next book coming out in December, pre order now.

Seriously, like don't walk, run. And the journey of the four steps in this book are all designed to help you become the non judgmental witness of the beliefs that hold you back. And through that lens of checking in with the belief and checking in with the part of you that's acting out, giving it some curiosity and some connection and compassion, you stop the loop because the loop is just a fear cycle.

The loop is a judgment cycle. The loop is a shame cycle. But when you witness that shame or you witness that fear, you witness that judgment with [00:23:00] the curiosity and compassionate connection, the loop stops in its tracks. It unwinds. And you start to, instead of seeing yourself stuck in that cycle and that hamster wheel, you've put a new pattern, this four step check in practice in place of the habitual pattern of being stuck in that cycle.

And the more you interrupt the pattern, the more distance there is between the trigger and that reaction. And so that distance between the trigger and the reaction is what we're going for. Beautiful space in between when you can say, Oh, there is that trigger again. Instead of falling into the loop, I'm going to witness it.

And that starts to create more and more space instead of just going from trigger to reaction, to trigger, to reaction, trigger, to reaction. This is one of the selfish moments that I get to have, because for me, it's very easy when I'm like in a good space to apply the force set method to [00:24:00] do all the other sort of work that I do, but sometimes I get like into like just Whether it's a depression or just like really feeling low and awful and lose my energy.

That's when I need it the most, but want to do it the least. Always. That's where prayer comes in. There's a whole chapter in the book called choice and sometimes choice feels so far from reach because we're stuck in the depression or we're stuck in the loop. It is a moment then because we can't necessarily feel like we have the power to want to do the check in or really to look at our behavior or look at our patterns, but we can say a prayer.

Like, if you can just get into the habit of being like, Oof, I don't feel good right now. I need a miracle. Something as simple as that. Or, I'm not in a, I'm not in a good place right now. I mean, even just this morning, we came in here, we started the recording. I was frustrated by the lighting. I didn't love it.

You know, just sort of the same old f ing story that we always have. And I said out loud, even, God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the [00:25:00] things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. I became the gaff girl. I changed the lights. And, you know, Things feel better.

I couldn't get myself out of that bad mood, but I could say a prayer. And the prayer is the conduit for new ideas. The prayer is the conduit for miracles. So I think that this is my message to you, Joshie, and anyone listening. If you find yourself stuck in those moments where you don't have the willpower, not even the willpower, I hate that word, but you don't have the, the energy or the, even the, the desire to just feel like you can pick up that book or do that practice.

God bless. You can say a prayer. Here I am. I'm stuck in a really rough place right now. Universe. Thank you for lifting this. Thank you for showing me the next step. Thank you for helping me. Thank you for knowing, reminding me of the courage I have to change. That's it. All right. I'm writing that one down.

You got that. Go pray. I think that these conversations, Josh, are so cool. I love them.[00:26:00]

That's me. So we can help shape a world where all ways of learning and thinking are embraced. Give today to join a community dedicated to empowering people who learn and think differently at understood.org/give.

How do you know if what you are doing is serving the world? How do you know if what you are doing is serving the world? Well, are you having fun doing it? If the answer is yes, and you're having a good time, then you're serving the world because your joy is the greatest gift that you can contribute. When you're having fun, you go to dinner and you're with your family and you're in a better attitude.

When you're having fun, the work you're doing is more joyful. When you're having fun, you are creating new opportunities. So the real answer is, is it bringing you joy? Genuine joy. That temporary hit of relief. Right. And that also sort of butts up against something else that I really love that you talk about is getting out of your own way and being of service to others.

And so it may not be that you're serving the world, but it is that idea that like, if you just. Change your focus from like, I don't want to say selfishly, but looking at yourself [00:30:00] and being sort of like I do, like get all mired in my own shtick. I know that like, if I just am like, Oh, you know what? I'm going to call this friend of mine who I know is out of work and you know, just check in.

That's right. Go check in. And that's not changing the world. It's changing your focus. And so, and it makes you feel good to be of service. So beautiful, beautiful point, Josh, because when we, when we're in our own head, one of the greatest ways out is to be of service to somebody else. Just set text to pick up the phone.

How are you doing? How are you feeling? What's going on? It's beautiful. It's an incredible practice. Yeah. And again, I, I believe, I'm of the belief, you know, you serve one person, you do ultimately change the world. You do because there's that beautiful truth actually, that when a butterfly flaps its wings in South America, it changes the wind patterns in the North Pole, right?

And it's gorgeous because it's true. It's all the energy matters. [00:31:00] So if I don't change my energy, today in this room, then you guys would walk out, all of you walk out feeling pissed off at me because I've been, you know, bossing everybody around with the lighting or whatever it is. But if I can change my energy, you can leave and have a better day, right?

So it's all about those adjustments to the shifts in your energy. And it's a moment to moment gig. We're not going to have a life without disturbances. We're not going to have a life without triggers. We're not going to have situations that disappoint us or tragic moments in our life. But the real work is to just decide who we want to be in that moment.

But I think that's also a really key message is that like the intention, there's no way you're going to be like that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 300. You just can't. Right. So that's where these things like the check in method in the book come where, like when you fall out of that. You have the you come back.

And that's why I love the Gabby coaching membership, right? Because it's like in the membership, you just open the app and you could do an affirmation or you could listen to a meditation or you could do a two minute practice right [00:32:00] there on the homepage. It's just quick shifts to get back into alignment.

And that for me is why I created that membership and why I made it so easy and accessible because I want people to just be able to dip right in. It's amazing. Yeah. Not feel like there's this mountain to climb to get there. There's no mountain to climb. You just press play on a two minute practice and listen to it, and it's going to be the exact practice you needed that day, that universe will deliver exactly what you need, and it's going to be perfect, and you're going to feel super hooked up, and then maybe you want to go do another meditation, or maybe you don't, but give me two minutes a day, and your life will change.

Yeah. I mean, well, the app we'll talk about again, but yeah, I mean, there's so much in there that that is supporting you then, right. In those quick fixes. Yeah. And I think it is those quick moments, those subtle shifts that make the big difference. So with all that, like how does one stay present in the moment then?

I think this is a nice place to close a conversation because I think that presence comes when we tend to the parts inside of [00:33:00] us. So we have lots of little children inside of us. that didn't get the presence from the adult figures that they needed. And so as a result, they've been sort of these little parts of us inside running around being like, how do I make myself feel better with this?

And how do I make myself feel better with this? And how do I, you know, what do, how much control can I have to feel better? How much alcohol can I have to feel better? And there's no presence because there's a constant trigger response that we're living in. And so the more that we tend to these young unresolved wounds inside of us through these four steps of the self help practice.

Or even going further into internal family systems therapy. The more we tend to these parts, the less extreme they become and the more peace we feel inside. And that undoing of the burdens and that compassionate connection to the young parts of us is what allows them, these parts of us, to move forward.

To feel our calm presence, which is the presence of self, and as we cultivate more and more of that connection to these young parts of us, the more [00:34:00] self energy becomes available to us. It's always been there, but it's just been behind the, the, the curtain. And so the more and more and more it develops inside of us, the more it becomes available and present.

And that self energy is calmness, and it is presence, and it's connection, presence. And once you feel that, you know you have access to it and you want more of it. Exactly. So you check it again. Amazing. So beautiful. All right. So I'm going to keep shouting it from the rooftops, my friends. This is an interesting time for me, Josh, because I feel like This book is a detour, right?

It's not The Universe Has Your Back. It's not Super Attractor. It's self help. But at the same time, I know that if someone's listening to 30 Minutes of Dear Gabby or they're gonna, you know, even be following me on social media or they've read one of my books, there's an inkling and a desire to say, well, what's the real flex, Gabby?

It might feel overwhelming, it might feel scary, it might not be the five steps to manifesting that you want from me, but it is the four steps to healing on the inside, which is the secret to manifesting.
