Have you ever felt an unexplained pull toward a person — or a place — like you were always meant to be there? Or found yourself in the same relationship pattern for the tenth time, wondering why does this keep happening to me?

That feeling? It’s not random. It’s your soul contract at work.

I sat down with my dear friend and psychic medium Rebecca Rosen for a channeled conversation on Dear Guides, and what came through completely blew me open. We talked about soul contracts — the pre-birth agreements your soul makes before you enter this world — and why certain people, challenges, and experiences are showing up in your life right now.

This conversation didn’t just teach me things. It confirmed things I’ve been living. And I think it will for you, too.

What Is a Soul Contract?

A soul contract is a spiritual blueprint your soul creates before you’re born.

Before you incarnate, you sit — in whatever form that takes — with your guides, your spiritual team, and you plan the broad strokes of your life. The key lessons. The karmic relationships. The core wounds you’ll come here to heal.

Rebecca describes it beautifully: it’s like “homework” you agreed to complete in Earth School. And as she says — if you’re alive, you’re enrolled.

That might sound overwhelming. But here’s what shifted everything for me: your soul didn’t choose pain. It chose growth. The soul isn’t looking for suffering. It’s looking to expand, to bring more light, to evolve. The challenges are just the curriculum.

Your Soul’s Blueprint: What You Agreed to Before Birth

I love imagining it this way. Picture yourself sitting at a table with your council of guides, holding your soul’s playbook in your hands. You’re looking at it — the relationships, the lessons, the places you’ll go — and your soul is saying, I’m ready for that. I can handle that.

And then you enter the world, the human experience takes over, and sometimes that knowing gets buried.

That’s the work. Not to escape your contract — but to remember it.

The soul contract is loose by design. We have free will. Certain things are inevitable, Rebecca explains — that’s karma — but how we move through them, what lens we choose, is always up to us.

Why Would a Soul Choose Pain?

This is the question that stops people. I know, because it stopped me.

I’ve been saying out loud lately: I know my soul contracted this. The most difficult experiences of my life — the trauma, the patterns, the rock bottoms — my soul chose those as the assignments that would shape me into who I’m here to be. And I’ll be honest: saying it that way, with ownership instead of victimhood, changes everything.

But I also know someone hearing this right now might be in the thick of something really hard — a diagnosis, a loss, a relationship falling apart — and thinking, I didn’t sign up for this.

Here’s what Rebecca’s guides offered, and what I believe in my bones: we can do this the easy way or the hard way. Either way, we grow. The soul chose this experience because, on a soul level, it knew we could handle it. And the most advanced souls sometimes choose the hardest paths. Not to suffer — but because they’re here to carry more light.

The shift that makes all the difference? Moving from this is happening to me to this is happening for me, for my soul’s growth and evolution.

Why Certain People Keep Showing Up in Your Life

I often say: the world is our classroom and people are our assignments.

If you keep attracting the same type of person — the same emotional dynamic, the same relationship wound playing out — that’s karma. Rebecca calls it the Groundhog Day effect. You go through the same pattern until you’ve learned the lesson, integrated it, and evolved from it.

This is not a punishment. It’s actually a gift — because when you see it that way, you’re not a victim. You have the power to rise. You can stop asking why is this happening to me and start asking what is this here to teach me?

Karma Is the Accumulation of Your Choices

Rebecca’s definition of karma is: karma is the accumulation of your choices.

We are free-will beings. Every choice we make — from light or from shadow — shapes the quality of the life we’re living. When we choose consciously, from love and awareness, we create good karma. And the reverse, as she says, holds true.

This is empowering, not punishing. Because it means you’re not a passenger in your own life. You’re the driver.

The Difference Between a Soul Contract and a Karmic Relationship

These two things are related, but they’re not the same — and the distinction matters.

A soul contract is your pre-birth plan: the overarching lessons and growth your soul committed to for this lifetime.

A karmic relationship is a repeating pattern in a relationship — with a person or a situation — that keeps showing up until you bring awareness to it and heal it.

Here’s the beautiful part: healing a karmic relationship is often how you fulfill your soul contract. The two are intertwined. That person who drives you crazy, who keeps triggering the same wound? They might be your greatest teacher. And when you can see that — when you can say thank you instead of why me — that’s your soul speaking.

How to Know Your Soul Contract

So how do you actually access this? How do you move from the concept to lived knowing?

Rebecca’s answer is simple, and it’s the one I keep coming back to: all the answers you need are inside of you.

The soul contract isn’t hidden from you. Your mind might have forgotten it. But your soul always knows.

Meditation: The Most Direct Path to Remembering

Meditation quiets the mind enough to let the soul speak.

In our Dear Guides episode, Rebecca led a channeled meditation specifically to help you remember your soul contract — and it was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve had on this show. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, I want you to experience it in full (watch the video above). But here’s what she guides you through:

  • Drop into your heart center — the seat of your intuition and soul
  • Invite in your team in spirit: angels, guides, and loved ones on the other side
  • Imagine a guide holding your Book of Life — the record of your soul’s contract
  • Ask: What am I here to learn in this lifetime? What is my most active soul contract right now?
  • Receive whatever comes — a word, a feeling, a knowing, a face

There’s no right or wrong answer. Trust what surfaces. What comes up is exactly what you need to know.

Journaling to Access Your Higher Self

Alongside meditation, journaling is one of the most effective tools I use to access soul-level wisdom. Instead of rushing to an external source for answers, you sit down and write.

I’ll often open my journal with: What would you have me learn from this?

That question cuts right through the noise of the mind. It orients me toward growth instead of grievance. And the answers that come through — I promise you, they’re your soul contract talking.

Signs You’re Fulfilling Your Soul Contract

There’s a feeling that comes with being on your soul path. It’s hard to describe, but once you’ve felt it, you know it immediately.

When Everything Falls Into Place

I’ve been experiencing this lately — what I can only describe as a visual of dominoes falling perfectly in sequence. Everything just… clicking. Piece after piece after piece.

Rebecca’s guides named it immediately: that’s the feeling of being in flow. It’s your soul saying, remember this — because this is what it feels like when you’re fulfilling your contract. Ease. Grace. A quiet sense of rightness, even when things are hard.

If you’ve felt that — if you’ve ever looked back at a painful chapter and thought I’m so glad I went through that, because it brought me here — that’s your soul contract working. That’s not an accident.

How to Know When a Soul Contract Is Complete

A soul contract feels complete when what once felt consuming no longer does. When the trigger is gone.

Rebecca says it so well: an ending isn’t failure. It’s completion. Your soul accomplished what it came to learn. The relationship, the pattern, the wound — it served its purpose. Now you’re free to expand into the next level.

I feel this with a core belief I’ve been healing my whole life. Something I’ve been wrestling with for 46 years. It’s not done, but it’s completing. And I can feel the difference — I’m a witness to it now instead of a victim of it.

That shift? That’s the soul contract moving toward fulfillment.

Right before a major completion, Rebecca reminds us: it’s always darkest before the dawn. The shadow surfaces. Old patterns flare. That’s not a sign of failure — it’s the final pieces coming up to be released so you can hold more light.

The Collective Soul Contract: Why Lightworkers Are Waking Up Now

Here’s something Rebecca’s guides shared that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

If you are in a body right now, you agreed to be here at this time. You are part of a universal soul contract — and that contract is to bring more love and more light onto the planet.

We call these people lightworkers. And if you’ve made it this far into this post, I have to believe you feel the truth of that in your bones. Something in you knows you’re here on purpose.

The darkness and fear-based energy on the planet right now is real. It’s easy to get lost in it. But when you remember — I chose this. I am here by divine design — everything shifts.

It starts with your personal contract. Your healing. Your alignment. And then, naturally, you show up in service to others. You pay it forward. That’s the whole cycle.

FAQ: Soul Contracts, Karma, and Your Soul’s Purpose

What is a soul contract? A soul contract is a pre-birth spiritual plan your soul creates — with the support of your guides — before you incarnate. It includes the key lessons, karmic patterns, and relationships you agree to experience for the purpose of growth and evolution.

Did I really choose this life before I was born? According to spiritual teachers and psychic mediums, yes — your soul chose the broad strokes of this lifetime before birth. That includes key relationships and pivotal challenges. Free will still exists within that blueprint, which is why it’s a loose contract, not a rigid script.

What is the difference between a soul contract and a karmic relationship? Your soul contract is the overarching plan for your growth in this lifetime. A karmic relationship is a specific, repeating pattern — usually in how you relate to others — that keeps surfacing until you bring awareness to it and heal it. Healing a karmic relationship is often how you fulfill a portion of your soul contract.

Why do I keep attracting the same type of person? Repeating relationship patterns are karma in action. Your soul is presenting the same lesson until you learn it, integrate it, and evolve. Once you do, the pattern shifts — and so do the people you attract.

How do I find out what my soul contract is? Meditation and journaling are the most reliable tools. In stillness, ask: What am I here to learn? What keeps showing up for me? The answers that rise intuitively — not from your mind, but from your knowing — are your soul contract speaking.

What does deja vu mean spiritually? Deja vu is your soul recognizing something that was always part of the plan. It’s a moment of re-remembering — a signal from your soul that this person, place, or experience is woven into your contract.

How do you know when a soul contract is complete? A soul contract feels complete when what once felt all-consuming no longer does. The trigger is gone and you feel at peace. And ending a contract — a relationship, a pattern, a wound — isn’t failure. It’s completion. It means your soul accomplished what it came here to learn.
